How to Format a HDD

When you use the Warp Drive you may not be able to find the drive in My Computer.

This can be caused by an unformatted hard disk drive, the wrong drive type, or power issues. To troubleshoot, use the below methods to solve your problem.

Method 1
Check to make sure the hard drive you use is formatted properly. If you format a drive using NTFS, it will not be available to Windows 98 or Me computers. To format the drive, please see our Tutorial on formatting new drives under Windows 2000/XP.

Method 2
Make sure the disk drive you use is supported by the Warp Drive. For Warp 2.5 users, some laptop drives will not work. This is because they may be a proprietary standard and not meet the common standards of 2.5" hard disk drives. Make sure you are using a standard 2.5" hard disk drive. Warp 3.5" Drive users should not experience this issue.

Method 3
Check to make sure the drive is powered on. Warp 3.5 users must have the AC adapter plugged in to an outlet in order for the drive to power on. The USB ports are not able to turn on high power consuming devices. For Warp 2.5 users, make sure you are not using an unpowered USB hub, or a USB card that has a port for an AC adapter. These hubs/cards do not have enough to power on these drives, even if the included PS/2 power adapter is included. Try plugging the Drive directly into the computers USB hub, and that it is USB 2.0. If you are using a laptop, you most likely need to use the PS/2 adapter or purchase the optional AC power adapter.

Method 4
Check to make sure you have USB 2.0. USB 1.1 ports may not be able to power on the drive, and will definitely not be able to give optimal performance. If you have USB 1.1, we recommend purchasing a USB 2.0 card for your computer.

Method 5
Make sure all cables are properly attached. Check the IDE cable on the Warp 3.5 to make sure it is attached correctly. Also, check the power cable to the hard drive. For the Warp 2.5, check to make sure the drive is inserted properly so that the pins line up. For both devices, make sure that the USB cable you are using is the one that came with the drive and that it is properly plugged in.

Method 6
Make sure the USB port is working. Try another USB port or another USB device into that same port. You may not have noticed that some or one of your USB ports do not work.
